The common vision for the Isonville School Community is to work collaboratively using every available resource to ensure that all students reach their full potential as life long learners.

A Brief History of Isonville Elementary School

Located alongside Newcombe Creek in the heart of the Isonville, Kentucky community is Isonville Elementary School.  A brick and masonry structure it was built in 1955-56 at a cost of $250,000.00. Until 2004, the building contained eight classrooms housing kindergarten through sixth grade, special education, and Title One resource rooms. It contained a receptionist and principal’s office, girl’s and boy’s restrooms, a janitor’s room, a computer resource room, a kitchen and storage room. In addition it had a large multipurpose room with a stage area which serves as an auditorium, gymnasium, and cafeteria. The school had air conditioners, computers, TV-VCR’s  in each classroom, central heating, a computer lab area, and ample playground areas with equipment. An outside trailer housed the school library and two additional resource rooms.

At the time it was built or shortly afterwards the following one-room schools in the Isonville area were shut down and the students were transported to the new school in an attempt to consolidate the schools of Elliott County: Beech Grove; Upper Blaine’s Trace; Lower Blaine’s Trace; Brack Adkins; Fairview; Brushy; Hurricane; Old Isonville; James Stevens; Rocky Branch; Wallow Hole; White’s Branch; Hamilton Branch; Newcombe; and Holly Grove. To date the school has had 6 principals: Merville Whitt, William "Bill" Thompson, Opal Brown; Wilbur Gordon Wheeler; Ray Tussey and last but certainly not least, our current principal, Felicia Dickerson.

In 2004 we finalized construction that added 2 new classrooms, a new library, and upgrades to the windows, heating and air conditioning throughout the building. The photo above shows the way our school looks now. The basketball court has been renovated and we constructed a greenhouse that allows for many hands on learning experiences and provides a community service. We are very proud of our school.
